Inter have a good chance to make it out of the group stage in the Champions League this season, and this could be the turning point needed by Simone Inzaghi’s team.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who highlight the importance of reaching the knockout rounds of Europe’s top competition to the Nerazzurri coach putting his stamp on this team.

Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri team have played at a high level against virtually all of the opponents they’ve faced this season in all phases of the game, but a lack of killer instinct in front of goal has left them seven points behind Serie A table toppers AC Milan and Napoli.

Compared to last season’s edition of the team under Antonio Conte, this Inter are not ruthless enough in the big head-to-head clashes.

One major blot on Conte’s record, however, was the failure to progress beyond the group stage of the Champions League, with the Italian failing to even make it to the Europa League with a third place finish despite guiding the team to their first Scudetto in eleven years.

Conte had also failed to reach the knockout rounds in his first season, while his predecessor Luciano Spalletti had fallen at the same hurdle.

Inter are currently second in their Champions League group and can make it to the knockout rounds with the right performances in their next two matches in the competition against Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid.

Progression to this point would represent a success where the club has failed at the last three times of asking, and could be the turning point that Inzaghi needs to show what he can do with this team.
