An Inter fan has been handed a three-year ban from footballing stadiums after attacking a police officer outside the San Siro before the Milan derby on Sunday.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Il Giorno, who report that the 24-year-old supporter has been officially been given the sentence for the altercation while he was intoxicated.

Milan questore Giuseppe Petronzi ordered the three-year ban for the ban based on the DASPO regulations in Italy meant to curb violent and unruly behaviour by fans at sporting stadiums.

The fan had been visibly intoxicated and began shouting at some of the police officers outside gate three of the San Siro before he threw his beer at one of the officers.

The actions were deemed to be resistance and insult to a public official, and therefore worthy of a ban from attending future sporting events in stadiums under the DASPO regulations.
