Rome midfielder Jordan Veretout feels that Inter are still one of the top sides in Serie A despite the departure of Antonio Conte in the summer.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the French midfielder stated his admiration of the quality of the Nerazzurri, and also praised the leadership abilities of former teammate and current Inter striker Edin Dzeko.

Inter had to regroup following the abrupt departure of Antonio Conte as head coach not long after the Italian manager guided the team to their first Scudetto in eleven years.

However, this season his replacement Simone Inzaghi looks to be guiding the team to another strong campaign even without Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi in the team.

One player who has made a big impact is former Giallorossi striker Dzeko, who Veretout has a very positive impression of based on their time together in the Italian capital.

“They are the reigning champions,” he said of the Nerazzurri. “Even without Conte they’ve maintained their level with a coach such as Inzaghi who did well at Lazio.

He went on that Inter have “Compensated for Lukaku’s departure with a great player like Dzeko. Edin is a leader on and off the pitch.”
