Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has pulled out of the Italian national team through injury ahead of their last 2022 World Cup qualifier through injury.

This is confirmed by the Italian FA, via FCInter1908, who report that the 22-year-old will not feature in any capacity in the Azzurri’s clash with Northern Ireland and that he has returned to his club.

Bastoni had to come off the pitch midway through the second half of last weekend’s derby draw against AC Milan, and a recurrence of the problem ruled him out of yesterday’s World Cup qualifying draw against Switzerland.

Further assessments have revealed that the 22-year-old will not be able to recover in time for Monday’s clash with Northern Ireland so he has pulled out of the Azzurri’s squad.

Bastoni will now link up with the rest of the Nerazzurri squad where coach Simone Inzaghi and the club’s medical staff will evaluate whether he will be ready to make a return against Napoli next weekend.
