Inter could resume their pursuit of Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez in January should Matias Vecino leave the club.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that Vecino’s departure during the January transfer window is a possibility and that it would open the door to a move for Nandez.

Vecino recently made remarks which suggest that he is not happy with the amount of playing time that he has received this season, and this could open the door to his January departure.

Should the Uruguayan leave the club, then the Nerazzurri could move for his countryman Nandez, with the versatile midfielder having been a major target during the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri had reportedly been close to an agreement for the signing of Nandez in the summer, but the deal fell through and they moved for Denzel Dumfries instead as a right-sided option.

However, the 25-year-old is still liked by the club, especially for his ability to fill in both in central midfield and as a right-sided wing-back.

Before the club could move for Nandez they would have to find a new destination for Vecino, but given that he is in the final year of his contract they could be persuaded to quickly agree a deal on his departure.

Lazio and Roma are thought to be interested in the midfielder’s signature, with Biancocelesti boss Maurizio Sarri considering a reunion with the player he worked successfully at while in charge of Empoli.

The second obstacle to signing Nandez would be his current club’s desire to monetize his sale to the fullest extent, although were Inter to propose a formula which saw them meet the Rossoblu’s financial demands but postpone most of the payment, such as a loan formula, and agreement could be found.

Nandez would like to join Inter and has already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri during the summer, so if Vecino were to leave over his lack of playing the Cagliari player could be brought in.
