Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is glad to be settling in and finding his best form for the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after his team’s 4-0 demolition of Cagliari earlier this evening, the 27-year-old spoke of his happiness at Inter and also defended teammate Lautaro Martinez for missing a penalty in the first half.

Expectations were high for Calhanoglu when he joined from city rivals AC Milan during the summer, and at times during his couple months at the club he did not look to be totally settled into the team.

However, over the last several matches the Turkish midfield has been a major factor in the Nerazzurri’s excellent form, making up a formidable midfield trio alongside Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic.

Calhanoglu is glad to be where he is and to have helped the Nerazzurri reach the summit of Serie A for the first time all season with another high-level performance and goal.

“I’m very happy to be here,” he stated, “it makes me proud and I have to thank the team for making me feel important. I give my best for them, for the club and for the fans who always support me.”

On Martinez’s missed penalty, the Argentine’s second of the season where Calhanoglu has been more clinical from the spot, he stated that “We don’t sweat the penalty, anyone can make miss one.”

“It can happen to me too,” he added. “We are a team, Lautaro played very well and he is very important to us. The team always comes first.”

“We have been playing a number of excellent matches, and now we are top of the table and we deserve it,” the midfielder concluded. “We’ve dominated all the matches we needed to get to the top.”
