Five Things We Learned From Inter This Week: “So Far Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri Better Than Antonio Conte’s Record-Breakers”

Inter provided yet more scintillating football in Friday’s thumping 5-0 of basement side Salernitana away in the Serie A.

With Hakan Calhanoglu once again pulling the strings, Simone Inzaghi’s men pushed themselves one step further to becoming winter champions.

Here’s what we learned from Inter this week.

1) Alessandro Bastoni Is A Freak Of Nature

For anyone who doesn’t watch Serie A, you won’t understand that Alessandro Bastoni is simply the best left sided centre half of his generation and has the potential to be one of if not the best centre halves in world football for years to come.

Despite being just 22, the former Atalanta man has a wealth of experience and has tactically evolved into an absolute monster.

Fast, solid in the tackle and now able to carry the ball and dribble like a winger, Bastoni has yet to even peak which is a truly frightening prospect.

Inter have a serious talent in their ranks.

2) Should Alexis Sanchez Stay?

Chilean attacker Alexis Sanchez looks to be potentially on the market if the right offer comes in.

Barcelona has been a linked destination for Inter’s top earner but would it be a wise choice to let him go?

In the last week he has provided two excellent performances and may perhaps be hard to replace in what will no doubt be a tough January window.

Going forward the likes of Giacomo Raspadori could fulfil Sanchez’s role in the squad but for the next six months it may be beneficial to keep Sanchez, unless a daft offer comes in.

3) André Onana Competition Hotting Up

It has been well publicised that Inter are in for a new goalkeeper to replace the waning Samir Handanovic.

Andre Onana of Ajax has been heavily linked and will be available on a free transfer in the summer.

According to various media outlets across Europe and in Italy, the deal is progressing and is believed to be close to completion.

However late interest from Barcelona and Napoli may force Inter to raise their stakes a little.

Onana looks a good bet on a free but should things break down, Inter may need to start looking for back up options.

4) Christian Eriksen’s Inter Journey Sadly Yet Expectedly Comes To An End

Rather inevitably, Christian Eriksen has said goodbye to Inter this week after his contract was terminated via mutual consent.

The Dane is unable to play with a heart monitor in Serie A so it makes sense to allow him to leave and continue his career elsewhere.

There almost seems as if it was never meant to be at Inter for Eriksen.

Shunted around by Conte and spending months on the subs bench without getting minutes was on the menu in his early days at the club but he managed to turn things around.

Yet typically, he seemed at home and solidified in the starting lineup but nature has other ideas.

It has been nice to see the two parties part so amicably and the reaction of the fans and players alike has been heartwarming.

Go well Christian and thank you for the goal against Crotone.

5) This Inter Is Better Than Last Years Record-Breaking Serie A Champions

Points wise, Inter are now up on this time last year.

Yes they’ve had a nice run of games of late but you can only beat what is in front of you.

It seems Inter have gone up a gear since beating Napoli and look a truly frightening prospect for any side in Italy.

The football they’re playing is easy on the eye, players such as Calhanoglu and Skriniar are playing their best football and they have now established themselves at the league’s summit.

Playing arguably ‘prettier’ football and with on paper a slightly weaker lineup due to the losses of Hakimi and Lukaku, Inter are better off in the league and have progressed further in Europe.

It’s been monumentally fabulous so far under Simone, long may it continue.
