Inter wing-back Matteo Darmian is happy to celebrate a trophy with the Nerazzurri, his second since joining the club, after winning the Supercoppa Italiana yesterday evening.

Speaking to InterTV after the win, the 32-year-old dedicated the trophy to the Nerazzurri’s fans and expressed the view that the result was fully merited based on the performance on the pitch.

Darmian got the assist for the Nerazzurri’s dramatic late winner against the Bianconeri, showing his desire to get to a ball ahead of defender Giorgio Chiellini and playing in Alexis Sanchez who slotted home.

The Chilean’s dramatic strike, coming with virtually the last kick of the game at the end of extra time, sent the entire team and the fans in the crowd in the rapture.

Darmian feels that the win was nothing more than a reflection of the quality of the performance that he and his teammates produced to take home their first piece of silverware this season.

“Winning always feels good,” he said. “Another trophy that I managed to conquer, after a very tough match.”

“The way the victory came makes the feeling even better,” he went on. “That it came in a Derby d’Italia makes it even more beautiful.”

“Tonight I think we definitely deserved the victory more than Juventus,” Darmian said, “we showed more conviction. It is a well-deserved victory for all our hard work, and we must keep going like this.”

He stated that “We were expecting a tough and confident Juve, and they showed their quality tonight. Coming back from a goal down is never easy, but we never stopped believing and we did it by playing our football.”

For a dedication, Darmian stated that “I think we all deserve this for the work we’re doing, the whole club and the fans who have supported us from day one, not just tonight.”

“We want to keep on like this so we win more trophies,” he concluded. “And I must make a special mention of my loved ones, my wife and my family.”
