Former Inter and AC Milan defender Fulvio Collovati believes that Inter were already strong enough to win the Scudetto even without January signings Robin Gosens and Felipe Caicedo.

Speaking to Rome-based newspaper Leggo in an interview published in today’s print edition, the 64-year-old gave the view that while the new arrivals reinforce the squad, they were hardly necessary to win the Scudetto.

Inter decided to use the January transfer window to bolster the squad in two areas of need, namely the left-sided position with Gosens and a striker to make up for the injury to Joaquin Correa in the form of Caicedo.

Both signings look to have the potential to add depth to the team as the fixture schedule becomes more congested, and could well give the Nerazzurri the extra impetus that they need across all competitions.

However, in the view of Collovati the team was already on course for the Scudetto even without this strengthening.

“Even without the signings of Gosens and Caicedo, I believe that Inzaghi would have won the Scudetto anyway,” Collovati stated.

“They’re just two more gems in a squad which in my view was already the strongest in Serie A,” he explained.
