Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo has confirmed that Inter have a serious interest in signing Paulo Dybala on a free transfer this summer now that he will be available from Juventus.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoJuve.it, the journalist, who works for Argentine broadcaster TYC Sports, stated that the Nerazzurri are one of the clubs with the strongest interest in the 28-year-old’s signature.

Dybala will leave the Bianconeri when his contract runs out at the end of June, with the player’s representatives turning down the club’s final offer for an extension in a meeting with the club yesterday.

Where the Argentine goes from here remains to be seen, but the Nerazzurri have been linked with an interest in his signature for some time, especially given the connection of CEO Beppe Marotta.

Merlo believes that Inter are serious in their interest, although far from the only club eyeing up a move for Dybala.

“If Juve had put forward the offer that they did five months ago, Paulo would have renewed,” he said, “his desire was to remain in Bianconeri colours.”

“His future is yet to be written,” he went on. “We know that Inter is very interested in Paulo, though in reality there are many clubs that have asked his representatives about him.”

“The ball is now in his court,” Merlo concluded, “what I can say is that he will choose based on the sporting project and not on the economic side of things.”
