Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Ivano Bordon feels that Simone Inzaghi has managed the goalkeeping situation correctly by relying on Samir Handanovic through the season.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Bordon emphasized the importance of continuity in the goalkeeping role.

Andrei Radu’s error to lead to a Bologna winner on Wednesday put the spotlight on the Romanian keeper, who was filling in for an injured Handanovic.

Some suggested that the problem could have been that Radu did not have rhythm or confidence due to barely playing throughout the season, with only a start against Empoli in the Coppa Italia prior to Wednesday’s match.

However, in the view of Bordon the coach’s decision to rely on Handanovic throughout the season has been the correct one for the good of the team.

“This is a unique role,” he said of being a goalkeeper, “in which security and calmness are needed. For this reason, a psychological reason, I don’t believe in rotating between first- and second-choice goalkeepers.”

On the situation for next season, he predicted that “Onana will arrive, he seems explosive, talented, we’ll see how he adapts.”

“Handanovic, who is a great guy, can help him adapt,” he  added.
