Alessandro Bastoni could be considered for the Inter captaincy after the 23-year-old made clear that he is not interested in leaving the Nerazzurri for any of Europe’s top clubs.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the defender’s rejection of a move away and commitment to the club for the future have made him a candidate to inherit the captain’s armband from current skipper Samir Handanovic.

Bastoni had been subject to transfer speculation earlier on in the transfer window, but after discussions with the club it became clear that he has absolutely no intention of leaving.

Coach Simone Inzaghi and the club directors also see Bastoni as a central player to the project, due to the fact that he has such a unique profile for a player in his position.

Now, not only is the 23-year-old the only member of the first-choice back three from the past couple seasons who is certain to stay past the end of next season, but he could even become the club captain in the future.
