Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga feels that while Milan Skriniar would be difficult for the Nerazzurri to replace, Alessandro Bastoni could prove to be even moreso.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Zenga gave his thoughts on the difficulty of replacing a top defender who could be sold this summer, and argued that Bastoni might be even harder to find an adequate replacement for than Skriniar.
A big name sale from Inter is all but inevitable this summer, and the greatest likelihood is that it will be a first-choice defender, with Bastoni having been linked with a move earlier in the window whilst now Skriniar is reportedly a major target for Paris Saint-Germain.
Any player of the quality of Skriniar and Bastoni would be difficult to lose and tough to find a replacement for, and many have questioned how the loss of Skriniar would affect the team.
For Zenga, however, Bastoni’s unique profile and style of play could make him particularly difficult to find a replacement for.
“It can be said that Skriniar is difficult for Inter Inter to replace given the growth over last two or three years,” he said.
“But the real irreplaceable player in Inter’s defense is Alessandro Bastoni for me,” he continued, “because a left-sided central defender with his characteristics is difficult to find.”
