Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has been experimenting with a new formation with a Number Ten playing behind two strikers in the early days of preseason training.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that the coach has tested out a 3-4-1-2 system in which Joaquin Correa has been used in a Number Ten position playing in the hole behind Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.

Inzaghi almost exclusively used a 3-5-2 system last season, apart from a few instances where one of Correa or Alexis Sanchez dropped deeper to play behind the strikers instead of in an attacking partnership.

This is also the formation that the coach predominantly used at Lazio, and whilst the dynamic of the attacking pair could be changed depending on which attackers were used, the presence of two forwards and three central midfielders has been a consistent theme.

However, in a training match during the Nerazzurri’s most recent training session, Inzaghi had the team play with Correa dropping behind the front pair and linking midfield with attack as a Number Ten.
