Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping for a reunion with Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi before the end of the transfer window, whilst the club’s directors are more inclined to target Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who report that the Nerazzurri coach feels that Acerbi’s profile is the right one to replace Andrea Ranocchia and back up Stefan de Vrij, whilst CEO Beppe Marotta and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio are less enthusiastic.

Inter will make one more signing before the end of the transfer window and are targeting a low-cost central defensive option to ensure that there is adequate depth in the backline for the season following Ranocchia’s departure.

Inzaghi worked with Acerbi for three season whilst in charge of the Biancocelesti and trusts the 34-year-old, whereas the club’s directors feel that an ambitious operation to target Akanji would be the best course of action.
