Inter vice president Javier Zanetti has said that the Nerazzurri are not scared of either Barcelona or Bayern Munich in their Champions League group, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media today.

Speaking during an interview with Sky Sport, via FCInternews, the Argentine spoke about Inter’s Champions League draw where they have been placed in Group C and will be facing Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich as well as Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen.

He stressed that the Nerazzurri do not fear these opponents even though on paper it is an extremely tough group for Inter to get out of.

“It is an incentive to face these teams now. Bayern is a team that has consolidated itself, Barça with Xavi has found balance, we want to give continuity to last year’s path. We have no fear, only respect, I believe Inter will be ready and prepared.”

He did admit that it is a very difficult group but he pointed out that Inter held their own against Liverpool last season who ended up going to the final.

“It’s a difficult group, complicated, with two teams that know how to play very well in this competition.

“But we are Inter. Even last year with Liverpool we were up to the task, we will have to be on top form. The Champions League is a competition of details, with the best in the world. We are there.”

The parallels with Inter’s last Champions League triumph in 2010 and the teams that they faced that year were pointed out to Javier Zanetti and he said: “Yes, it’s a good memory that came to mind for me too. This is a different story, football has changed.

“I say that these are teams that we have to face at the top of our form because they put you in trouble at every moment. We will prepare for our matches in the best possible way, we are growing and we proved it last season. We will try again this year.”
