Tottenham Hotspur had asked about the possibility of signing Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella during the summer, but were immediately turned down.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri quickly made clear to the London-based club that Barella is not on the market, quickly ending their interest in signing the 25-year-old.

It had been widely reported that Tottenham had made Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni a major target during the summer at the behest of former Nerazzurri coach Antonio Conte, but according to the Corriere the former coach was also keen on another player from his old club.

The Premier League side asked Inter about the availability of Barella, who Conte was hoping could join to strengthen his midfield.

However, the negotiations did not even go as far as they had concerning Bastoni, as Inter made very clear that Barella is not a player who they have any interest in selling.
