Former Inter striker Ivan Zamorano feels that the expectation around the Nerazzurri was that they would get this season off to a better start than they have.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the Chilean gave the view that Inter have not been as impressive as he had thought they would be, and also stated that last time around they were responsible for all but handing the Serie A title to AC Milan.

Inter had an eventful summer transfer window to retool a squad that had come frustratingly close to winning the Serie A title last season only to lose it to AC Milan on the final day of the campaign.

The addition of Romelu Lukaku was the most eye-catching addition, but the sense was that in general the Nerazzurri would kick on from their promising performances last season with some targeted signings and a further season and preseason under their belt with Simone Inzaghi.

“We all expected that the season would have started better, but that’s how Inter are,” Zamorano said. “There’s still that effort that has to be made to get in the right physical condition.”

“Last season we lost the title rather than Milan winning it, even if they have a great team,” he added. “The losses in the derby and against Bayern hurt the team a lot on an emotional level, and we hope to keep winning so as to have a better season.”
