Viktoria Plzen coach Michal Bilek feels that there was no reason for midfielder Pavel Bucha to get himself sent off for a reckless challenge on Inter’s Nicolo Barella in yesterday’s Champions League clash between the two sides.

Speaking in a press conference after the match, as reported by FCInter1908, Bilek made no attempt to make excuses for the 24-year-old’s rush of blood to the head which resulted in the Czech side being reduced to ten men for half an hour.

Barella was left writhing on the ground in visible pain following a heavy challenge by Bucha just after the hour mark in yesteray’s match, and replays made very clear why, as the Plzen player’s studs had made strong contact with his shin.

Referee Sandro Scharer evidently didn’t initially see how severe the contact had been and only brandished a yellow card, but after being advised by VAR upgraded the card to red, and Bilek feels that it was a senseless decision by his player.

“His sending off was senseless,” the coach lamented. “He was a long way from getting the ball, it was a senseless challenge to make.”
