Inter defender Milan Skriniar is proud to have been named as the captain of the Slovakian national team after midfielder Marek Hamsik stepped down from the role upon retiring from international football.

Speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews, the 27-year-old gave his thoughts upon being confirmed as the next player to wear the armband following the retirement of Hamsik, expressing pride and the desire to prove that he is the right man to lead his national team.

Skriniar has been tipped as one of the main candidates to take over as Slovakia captain whenever Hamsik stepped down, given the quality of his performances at both club and international level as well as his leadership qualities.

Hamsik retired from international football at the age of 35, and Skriniar was indeed chosen as the man to take the armband from the legendary former Napoli midfielder, and he gave his thoughts.

“I’m satisfied, I’m happy, it’s an honour for me to be able to lead this team,” he said. “I’ll do everything I can to make this decision a deserved one.”
