Inter carried on their revival with a comfortable win over Salernitana to add to a brilliant performance over Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

This week has seen Inter make it back to back league wins as well as take charge of their destiny in their pursuit for Champions League progression.

Here’s the key talking points from a solid week from the Nerazzuri.

1) No Going Back On André Onana

Something that we have talked in depth about for months is the Handanovic and Onana situation.

Does Inzaghi stay loyal to Inter’s long standing custodian and club skipper or go with a younger and more dynamic model that looks to be the future?

From an on field viewpoint, Inter have looked much more secure since the decision to start with Andre Onana.

The defence seems much more confident with the Cameroonian in between the sticks and his distribution has been truly outstanding.

Too much change causes more of an issue and given Onana has grasped the opportunity with both hands. Stick with Andre.

2) Lautaro Martinez Back With A Bang

After a recent dry spell in front of goal, Lautaro Martinez is now back in form and with a bang.

A brilliant performance away from home against Barcelona saw the Argentine striker show his class on the European stage.

Hammering in an early strike against Salernitana on the weekend helped also set the tone to see Inter really grasp hold of the tie and secure a comfortable win.

Lautaro, despite his recent goal troubles, has played with a real air of maturity this term and his goals in the past week have really echoed that opinion.

Despite the return of Romelu Lukaku, it appears that Lautaro is now the main man and will certainly be all season should he keep up this form.

3) Romelu Lukaku’s Condition A Concern?

News bouncing around Milan this week was mostly targeting the physical condition of Romelu Lukaku.

Since his return from Chelsea in the summer, Lukaku has played just three times in the colours of the Nerazzuri with what looked like a routine injury seemingly taking longer to heal.

Inter physical staff seem to be suggesting, if reports are to be believed, that the Belgian’s physical condition was severely down from when he left the club twelve months prior.

Is this a quick fix or is bringing back Lukaku going to be a dud?

Inter could certainly benefit from the Lukaku of just over a year ago but is that animal gone?

4) Back Robin Gosens

Robin Gosens showed real quality in the fighting draw with Barcelona in midweek.

The German contributed with an excellent goal and could’ve even had a brace after he missed late on from a great header but it wasn’t his play in the final third that totally defined his performance.

Some really tenacious defending and some truly warrior like pressing showed Inter fans the reason why he was so highly regarded during his spell at Atalanta.

Since his arrival in January, Gosens has simply been unable to catch a break but perhaps the barnstorming performance against Barcelona could be a major turning point for him.

Think of Christian Eriksen’s free kick against Milan and what it did for him? Could lighting strike twice.

5) Inter’s Aim Switching To The Champions League?

After a really poor league start that perhaps puts Inter in a place where the league is already out of reach for Inter, is their focus now rightly on Europe?

After two truly excellent performances against Barcelona, that has seen them pick up four points, Inter look favourites at the time of writing to join Bayern Munich in the next round.

A win over Plzen in their next tie and a defeat for Barcelona against Munich would see Inter quality so could it be a stretch to say that Inter should certainly be looking at improving their European prestige?

Simone Inzaghi is building something of a reputation for being a good European manager, something that his revered predecessor can’t add to his resume.

It’s really exciting seeing an Inter side taking four points off Barcelona and moving towards the nitty gritty of knockout European football, especially given the mess of much of the past decade.

Enjoy the ride and see where it takes Inter. We’ve missed these nights at San Siro so any chance at more should be prioritised.
