Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic has broken his own record for the amount of distance covered in a match at the FIFA World Cup.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that the 30-year-old’s 16.7 km covered in Croatia’s penalty shootout win over Japan has exceeded his own record of 16.3 km against hosts Russia in 2018.

Brozovic started against Japan on Monday, and the Nerazzurri midfielder saw out not just the full ninety minutes plus stoppage time, but also all of extra time.

Given that the Croat’s style of play for both club and country revolves around constantly making himself a passing option and covering in front of the backline defensively, it is little surprise that he had a significant amount of running to do in over two hours.

Brozovic ran a total of 16.7 km during the whole match against the Japan.

This broke the record that Brozovic had himself set, in 2018, when Croatia went to extra time and then penalties against hosts Russia.
