The City Council of Milan has given their approval to Inter and AC Milan’s plan to build a new stadium, but with higher capacity.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Council voted in favour of the plans, but with the added conditions of higher capacity, particularly lower-cost seating, and also the inclusion of more green space.

The City Council of Milan held a debate today on the proposals to modify the plans of Inter and Milan to build a new stadium in the city of Milan based on the recommendations that emerged from the public debate which ended last month.

The Council voted by a margin of 24 votes in favour to 17 against, with one abstaining, to approve the clubs’ plans, but only with the requested modifications.

The increase in the capacity of the new stadium to around 70,000 is one modification that the City Council are requesting based on the recommendations from the public debate.

In particular, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have been asked to include more lower-cost seating in their plans, in response to concerns that had been raised during the public debate that tickets could become inaccessible.

Meanwhile, the Council have also added the condition that at least 50% of the surface area for the entire project consist of green space.

Now, it will be left to the clubs to implement these proposals in their plans if they are to receive the final approval of the City Council to begin construction.
