Inter want to extend midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu’s contract until the end of June 2026, and are planning to begin talks with the player’s agent in January.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri have no doubts about wanting to extend the Turkish international’s contract past the end of June 2024 when it currently expires.
Calhanoglu joined Inter on a three-year contract from city rivals AC Milan during the summer of 2021.
The 28-year-old’s current deal therefore expires at the end of June 2024, although the Nerazzurri have an option to extend his deal a further season until the end of June 2025.
However, the former Rossoneri midfielder has emerged as a vital player for Inter on the pitch, particularly given his demonstrated ability to play at the base of midfield this season.
Accordingly, the Nerazzurri want to extend Calhanoglu’s contract until the end of June 2026.
Inter will sit down with the Turk’s agent Gordon Stipic sometime in January, when the agent is expected to be in Milan.
