Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he was a supporter of Inter during his childhood, but changed allegiances after a long history with bitter rivals AC Milan.

The former midfielder joined Milan from Roma in 1987 and won two league titles and two European Cups before retiring in 1992, and enjoyed an almost equally successful spell as coach from 2001 until 2009.

In an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of Il Foglia, Ancelotti admitted that he had grown up cheering on Inter, and it was a trait he shared with fellow title-winning Milan coaches Arrigo Sacchi and Stefano Pioli.

“Yes, it’s true! For me, the sympathy for Inter always remains, because it was the team of my childhood,” Ancelotti declared.

“From the age of six until I was 15 I was an Inter fan and then, little by little, my ideas changed. Now I can say I’m 100% Milanista.”

Ancelotti led Milan to one Serie A title and two Champions League triumphs as coach, as well as the Coppa Italia and the Club World Cup.

The former Italy international returned to Real Madrid last year after coaching them from 2013 until 2015, and lifted the Champions League as a coach for the fourth time in his career in May.
