Inter’s Serie A match against Monza this evening will see Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta renew acquaintances with friend and opposite number Adriano Galliani.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Marotta and Galliani enjoy a friendship dating back 40 years, after their respective work within football has seen them work on various transfers, negotiations, and projects together.
The pair first met during a Serie B game between Marotta’s Varese and Galliani’s Monza in May 1981, with the former coming out on top and Galliani quarrelling with the referee.
Galliani then took on the same role at AC Milan under Silvio Berlusconi, helping the Rossoneri become a dominant force in Italian football again and serving as an inspiration to Marotta, who is 13 years his junior.
Whilst Galliani was enjoying success with Milan, Marotta had moved on to Monza himself and worked at the club until 1988, and the strong link between Inter and Monza is set to see the pair meet up again this evening.
