Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has been left out of his team’s squad for this evening’s Serie A clash with Hellas Verona so that he can focus on preparing for the Supercoppa Italiana match against AC Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Belgian is staying behind so that he can work on training instead of sitting on the bench against the Gialloblu.

Even if Lukaku were to be in the matchday squad for this evening’s match, he would only start on the bench as he is not yet back to 100%.

Accordingly, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi has made the decision to leave the 29-year-old out entirely.

The rationale is that an evening travelling to and from the match and sitting on the bench would disrupt the process of Lukaku’s return to fitness.

Accordingly, the striker will instead continue to work so that he can get as much time on the training pitch in as possible ahead of Wednesday’s match against Milan.
