Legendary former Inter, Lazio, and Atletico Madrid striker Christian Vieri feels that it is ironic that Inter let Alexis Sanchez leave and passed up on signing Paulo Dybala given that they now lack a player with dribbling and invention in the final third.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, via FCInter1908, the former striker noted that the Nerazzurri have come into this season without a player capable of beating a defender one-on-one easily when they had the opportunity to come into the campaign with at least a couple different ones.

The fact that Inter do not have a player who readily bypasses opponents with bits of skill has been noted this season.

Last campaign, Sanchez had often been turned to when this was needed, whilst wingback Ivan Perisic had also been capable of creating chances on the dribble before his move away to Tottenham Hotspur.

Sanchez was offloaded during the summer as the Nerazzurri sought to lower their wage bill, however, and Dybala was another player who could have been signed, but Inter preferred Romelu Lukaku and so the Argentine instead made the switch to Roma.

“In the summer, Inter paid Sanchez to leave, and then they failed to sign Dybala when he was available on a free transfer,” Vieri noted.

“These are exactly the kinds of players we need,” the former striker continued, “right now the team looks to monotonous without a player with that kind of invention.”
