Inter directors are set to meet with coach Simone Inzaghi to talk about the future of the season, as doubts re-emerge about the coach’s long-term future at the club.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri are increasingly uncertain about the coach given the constant ups and downs in the team’s form this season.

Monday evening’s goalless draw away to Sampdoria underlined the Nerazzurri’s struggles for consistency this season.

After very positive results against Atalanta in the Coppa Italia and AC Milan in Serie A, the expectation was that the Nerazzurri would be able to get the job done at the Marassi, and instead the team produced a turgid and cautious performance which saw them settle for a point.

This has become a theme for the Nerazzurri over the course of the season, and the coach can hardly be considered blameless.

The directors are concerned with what they see as a lack of tactical versatility or willingness to switch from the tried-and-true 3-5-2 formation when things aren’t working.

Moreover, there are questions about whether the team has the right ruthlessness in moments of difficulties, or whether the tactical complacency transmits into a lack of cutting edge or a Plan B to kill off difficult matches.

Lastly, there are questions raised about the mental side of things given the unsavoury moment during the team’s draw against the Blucerchiati which saw tension boil over between striker Romelu Lukaku and midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The club are having doubts about whether Inzaghi is the right man to guide the team through these moments, and the directors intend to speak with the former Lazio coach to bring up their concerns.
