Former Inter striker Alvaro Recoba feels that the atmosphere around the Nerazzurri right now is similar to in his day, in that there is always a swift and intense reaction every time the team fails to win a match.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Quotidiano Sportivo in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former striker noted how any dropped points by the Nerazzurri always seem to be treated with an uproar this season.

The reactions to some of Inter’s recent results have been, if not quite panic, not far from it.

The draw away to Sampdoria last week, in particular, saw widespread doubt cast upon the team and on coach Simone Inzaghi, whilst ultras group the Curva Nord released a statement that was critical of the coach.

From Recoba’s perspective, this feels like deja vu as this was how he experienced things when he was playing in a Nerazzurri shirt.

“It must be said that as soon as Inter don’t win a match, it’s just like in my day,” the former striker said, “it immediately becomes a big controversy, as it did after the draw against Sampdoria.”

“While Napoli look completely unstoppable in the league this season, I’m counting on Inter to be able to make some headway in the Champions League,” he noted, “particularly given how strong they seem to be in cup competitions.”

Recoba added that “Porto seem to be the bete noir of Italian teams, though, and it won’t be easy.”
