Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping that the team can follow up on yesterday’s performance and win against Porto when they face the Portuguese side for the second time in just under three weeks.
Speaking to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews, the coach gave his thoughts on the performance, giving the view that the victory was deserved but that there is still work to do.
It is advantage to Inter in their two-legged Champions League round of sixteen tie against Porto yesterday evening, but nothing more than that.
The Nerazzurri have given themselves something to protect in the second leg, but with an awareness that it is only the slenderest of leads and could be erased at any point.
Accordingly, a good performance will be needed on the team’s trip to Portugal next month, although from Inzaghi’s vantage, they have already proven that they can do it against this opposition.
“It’s a great win against a team with a lot of physical and technical quality,” the coach said.
“Now we’ll have to go to Porto and play another great match in twenty days.”
“In my opinion we had two excellent halves,” Inzaghi continued.
“Already in the first half we had a great chance for Lauti, and their keeper was forced into an excellent save, we could have already been ahead at halftime,” he continued.
“Then in the second half we did well, we didn’t get too stretched out and coped with their counterattacks well, with Skriniar and Onana.”
Of striker Romelu Lukaku, Inzaghi said that “We know what he can give us, he gives us huge added value.”
“We know what he’s been through, now he’s back at his best, he’s working hard and doing well in training,” the coach went on.
“Now he has to keep going like this.”
