Inter striker Lautaro Martinez looks to have emerged as a “symbol of a new Inter” through the leadership he has increasingly been showing.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who suggest that the 25-year-old’s shows of leadership especially when the going gets tough has given him a more central role in the team.
Martinez was the first person to take responsibility after a dismal showing by the Nerazzurri saw the team lose to Bologna on a rainy afternoon in Emilia-Romagna last summer.
The Argentine made clear that part of the fault for the bad performance had been his, and that he had to do better.
Moreover, the 25-year-old also used his remarks to the media as an opportunity to publicly urge all of his teammates to find another gear to get out of the slump that they suddenly found themselves in.
In the view of the Gazzetta, this is clear confirmation that Martinez is now the leader of this Inter team both on and off the pitch, and that his character and role within the squad are emblematic of what the future holds, good or bad.
