All of Inter President Steven Zhang, CEO Bepp Marotta, and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio tried to convince Roberto Samaden to stay on as the head of the Nerazzurri’s youth academy.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who report that all of the Nerazzurri’s directors made an attempt to get the 56-year-old to reconsider his decision to step down, but that his mind was already made up.
It has now been made clear that Samaden will leave Inter at the end of the current season, with his contract with the club running out at the end of June.
It is not clear what the next chapter will be for the youth academy director, who could find a role at a different club, and has also been linked with a possible position within the Italian FA.
What is certain, however, is that Samaden feels that it is time for something different, after an association with Inter that had lasted 33 years.
Given that Samaden has been widely considered to have done an excellent job in his role, the club’s directors had been hoping that he would not leave.
Zhang tried to convince the 56-year-old to reconsider, whilst Marotta, who had in fact tried to bring Samaden to Juventus in 2013, is also among his admirers, as is Ausilio.
However, according to FCInter1908, Samaden feels firmly that, despite having had a very positive tenure at Inter, he is ready to seek a new challenge, and so he graciously declined the Nerazzurri’s directors and made his decision to leave at the end of the season final.
