Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana feels that the Nerazzurri fully deserved to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League against Porto.

Speaking to InterTV, via FCInterNews, the Cameroonian made clear that as far as he’s concerned, the Nerazzurri were the better side over the course of their Champions League tie against the Portuguese champions.

Inter and Porto both put everything into their two-legged round of sixteen tie in the Champions League.

In the first leg at the San Siro, the Nerazzurri got a narrow 1-0 victory, whilst in the second they managed to hold the Portuguese side at bay for ninety minutes plus stoppage time to hold onto that advantage.

It was certainly not a one-sided tie, but it was enough for Inter to get through to the next round of the competition.

For his part, Onana feels that there was nothing undeserved about it.

“The truth is that we worked very well as a team, we had to suffer at times against a top opponent,” the goalkeeper said.

“We knew it would be difficult, but we did what we were all hoping for and secured qualification for the next round,” he continued.

“They’re a strong team, but we were better than them,” he added.

“We put in a good performance, and they also proved that they’re very strong defensively.”

Of the Nerazzurri’s defensive performance, Onana said that “When we all work together we make it difficult to score against us, we have a lot of confidence looking ahead to the next round.”

“I’m very happy with the result, we showed heart and character.”

“Next up we have Juventus, but it was important for us to go into that match with qualification for the Champions League round of sixteen wrapped up,” he concluded.
