Former AC Milan midfielder Albertino Bigon is rooting for Inter in their Champions League tie against Benfica, as he would like to see a Milan derby in the next round of the competition.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Bigon put his Rossoneri loyalties aside in hoping that the two derby rivals can both reach the semifinals of Europe’s top club competitions.
Whilst Inter have not drawn Milan in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, the draw that they’ve been handed does mean that if both they and the Rossoneri reach the last four of the competition then they will meet in a derby clash.
It is hardly a foregone conclusion that Inter will get past Benfica, or that Milan will overcome Napoli, let alone that both will happen.
However, for former Milan midfielder Bigon, there is a feeling that this is within reach, and he said “Forza Inter against Benfica, it would be brilliant to see a derby in the semifinals.”
