Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is currently back in Milan, but he will not undergo medical tests on the groin injury that he picked up yesterday until tomorrow.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the 29-year-old has returned to the Nerazzurri’s training centre but that as of yet no medical exams have taken place.

Inter will be holding their breath regarding the fitness of Calhanoglu.

The former AC Milan midfielder picked up a groin injury during yesterday evening’s EURO 2024 qualifier between Turkey and Croatia.

Towards the first half of the match, Calhanoglu had to be substituted off in pain, and Turkey coach Stefan Kuntz confirmed that the problem was a strain to the midfielder’s groin.

However, what was not made clear was the extent of the injury, and how long Calhanoglu will be out for.

The Turk is a central player to Inter in all senses, having already made a total of 36 appearances for the club in all competitions this season.

Whilst it had been expected that medical tests would be scheduled for today, the Nerazzurri’s medical staff have instead decided that they will hold off until tomorrow.

The tests should give a much clearer picture of when Calhanoglu will be able to return.

The 29-year-old is reported to already be out for this Saturday’s Serie A match against Fiorentina, but then there are several massively important matches on the way with little time to spare.

In the month of April, Inter play a total of nine matches across all competitions.

Among these are both legs of a Coppa Italia semifinal tie against Juventus, and a Champions League quarterfinal tie against Benfica.

The medical tests scheduled for tomorrow should go some way towards revealing whether Calhanoglu will be able to return to action relatively swiftly, or whether he could miss several matches recovering from his injury.
