Inter do not consider either of current Primavera coach Christian Chivu or Simone Inzaghi’s assistant coach Massimiliano Farris to be ready to step up and replace Inzaghi if the 46-year-old is to be sacked.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, who report that the two main candidates for a caretaker role are still not being looked at due to the fact that the club have doubts about their suitability.

If Inzaghi were to be sacked before the end of the season, then the club would have to find a caretaker coach who would be able to take the former Lazio boss’s place on the bench until at least the end of the season.

As things stand, the club are giving Inzaghi their backing, but this could change in the event that results do not pick up in the next three matches.

Current Primavera coach and Treble-winning former Nerazzurri, Roma, and Ajax defender Christian Chivu has been linked as one of the main candidates.

The 42-year-old is already part of the club, and has guided the Primavera team to winning the Under-19 Scudetto last season, and could be prepared to immediately take charge of the senior team if the club feel that something different is needed to save the season.

Meanwhile, Farris would also be one of the natural candidates to take over on a caretaker basis, considering that he is currently Inzaghi’s number two.

The 52-year-old followed Inzaghi from Lazio, where he was the coach’s trusted lieutenant in the dugout.

Farris has also taken charge of a number of matches in which the head coach has been suspended, whilst he also was on the bench for a 5-0 win over Salernitana last season due to the fact that Inzaghi had lost his voice.

According to La Repubblica, however, Inter have major doubts regarding both of these two possible candidates, and so for this reason would be unlikely to pull the trigger on replacing Inzaghi with a caretaker.
