Inter owners Suning would be wary of sacking Simone Inzaghi before the end of the season partly because of the costs that would be associated with parting ways with the 46-year-old and replacing him with a caretaker coach.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the financial situation of the Nerazzurri will be a major factor in any decision regarding Inzaghi’s future.
Rumours and doubts about Inzaghi’s future on the bench at Inter have grown louder than ever following the team’s loss to Fiorentina over the weekend, the third in a row in the league, the fourth in five matches, and the tenth overall.
As of now, the Nerazzurri continue to back the former Lazio coach.
However, it has also been reported that the Nerazzurri could be forced to act if results do not take a positive turn soon, and even that the 46-year-old may only have a little over a week in which to save his job.
If Inzaghi were to be sacked during the summer, then there would be any number of candidates on Inter’s shortlist to replace him, but if he is out the door before the end of the season then a caretaker coach will need to be appointed.
Current Primavera coach and former Inter, Roma, and Ajax defender Christian Chivu has been linked in this regard.
However, as Tuttosport notes, the financial situation at the Nerazzurri could make it difficult to afford sacking the current coach, paying him and his staff their severance packages, and then paying a new coach to take over on a caretaker basis.
Then, there would be the question of the costs associated with appointing a new long-term coach and the financial aspects of such.
The sensational situation at Chelsea, who have sacked both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter in the space of just a few months, is illustrative of the financial dangers of going through too many coaches.
From the perspective of Inter and of Suning, spending on sacking coaches in this manner could simply be untenable.
The financial situation at the Nerazzurri is well-known, and the owners are still considering how they will pay back a massive loan taken on from US-based fund Oaktree Capital in 2021 before it comes due next season.
Accordingly, Suning could decide against sacking Inzaghi immediately partly for financial reasons.
