Inter Milan played a 1-1 draw with Juventus in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal at the Allianz Stadium in Turin in a cagey affair mired in a racist scandal, leading to lukewarm ratings in SempreInter.com’s Inter Milan player ratings.

The Nerazzurri started the match on the back foot, with Juventus creating the first big chance of the game where Samir Handanovic made a finger-tip save to deny Angel Di Maria.

Inter then created more and more taking over the initiative but failing to score when applying the finishing touch, as has been the case so often this season, with the half ending in a goalless draw.

In the second half, Inter continued where they left off, creating a couple of good chances before tiring leading Juventus to take the intiative.

The Bianconeri created a couple of good chances before Juan Cuadrado gave them the lead. That looked to be the only goal of the game, until Gleison Bremer hand balled in the penalty area and Romelu Lukaku equalized from the penalty spot with essentially the last kick of the game.

However, immediately after Lukaku’s goal he was sent off for shushing the crowd, a crowd who was audibly hurling racist abuse at him.

This led to complete mayhem ensuing leading to both Samir Handanovic and Juan Cuadrado being sent off after a brawl which continued into the tunnel. No doubt, the last word on this scandal has not been said quite yet.

Inter Milan Player Ratings Vs Juventus

Samir Handanovic – 5: Made few good saves throughout the match but was not called-upon often. Could have done better on the goal, but was left to dry.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6.5 (MOTM): While many disagreed in his chance to start, did extremely well as per usual. Solid in defence and many times joined the attack.

Francesco Acerbi – 5,5: Solid performance for the veteran defender against a quick attack. Made many key recoveries and clearances, leading his backline.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6: Did well to burst forward, always offering himself as an option on attack by overlapping his wingback. Did well sending long-balls.

Matteo Darmian – 5,5: Relatively quiet m Looked calm and collected the entire match, directing the midfield and doing well to maintain possession by playing out of pressure.

Nicolo Barella – 6: Inter’s most creative player today, always looking to take on a man, finding a smart way out of pressure and driving the ball forward.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6: Looked calm and collected the entire match, directing the midfield and doing well to maintain possession by playing out of pressure.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 5,5: Good all around match and had many chances, creating several as well. Had a huge chance in the second half, but was blocked.

Federico Dimarco – 5: Coming back from injury did well up and down the left flank, but crossing was off today. Couldn’t pick out the correct ball.

Lautaro Martinez – 4,5: Another poor performance, not enough from him today. Lost the ball far too many times and was nowhere to be found in the box.

Edin Dzeko – 4,5: Not enough attacking presence, and was often playing deeper in midfield. Made an effort to carry the ball forward, but came to nothing.

Substitutes:

Robin Gosens – 5: Replaced Federico Dimarco in the 69′ minute and had little impact off the bench. Out of position sometimes which led to a goal.

Romelu Lukaku – 6: Brought on in the 69′ for Edin Dzeko and started slow but eventually converted a penalty to tie the match, being sent off in the process.

Manager

Simone Inzaghi – 6: Made minimal changes to his last lineup. The squad did well and he made good substitutions at the right times.

Referee

Davide Massa – 3: Low rating for idiotically sending off Romelu Lukaku at the end. Never a second yellow, especially considering the circumstances.

Team Performance

Inter – 5,5: Fell apart in the final third and couldn’t score a goal to save their lives. Defended well aside from the goal and needed a penalty to score.
