Inter have largely been staying quiet following the scandal that erupted following the racist abuse hurled at striker Romelu Lukaku by some Juventus fans on Tuesday, but they will respond on the pitch against Salernitana this evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who suggest that the Nerazzurri have not wanted to get bogged down, and that Lukaku has taken the approach of trying to have his say on the pitch.

Inter did release an official statement condemning the racist abuse that Lukaku suffered on Tuesday, albeit a relatively brief one.

Meanwhile, the player concerned responded with a statement of his own regarding the incident, expressing the hope that there can be a real reaction by the authorities to the scandal and that there can be real change.

However, apart from these statements, neither Inter nor Lukaku have done anything to publicly weigh in on the scandal that has erupted as of yet.

Rather, Tuttosport suggest, the Nerazzurri as well as the 29-year-old Belgian international have taken the path of trying to avoid becoming distracted by the shameful incident.

Lukaku is already set to be banned for the second leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal tie against the Bianconeri due to a second yellow card received amid the racism he was on the end of, and in truth the Nerazzurri can ill afford for the incident to become any more of a setback than it has been.

Arriving at the most decisive and difficult portion of their season, Inter and Lukaku have taken the couple of days since Tuesday’s shameful incident to regroup and work calmly and away from prying eyes.

Rather than trying to immediately stoke controversy or put the spotlight on the important social issues exposed by Tuesday’s incident, Inter and Lukaku will have their say on the pitch, starting with this evening’s Serie A match against Salernitana, Tuttosport suggest.
