Milan Mayor Beppe Sala has set a clear deadline for Inter and AC Milan regarding their decision as to whether or not to continue with plans to build a new stadium to replace the San Siro or not.
Speaking to reporters, via FCInterNews, the Milan Mayor explained that he has given the clubs ninety days to decide one way or the other on the question of moving forward with the existing plans or changing their plans.
Whilst Inter and Milan have been working towards building a new stadium in Milan in place of the San Siro over the last few years, progress has been slow.
Setback after setback has held the project, and it has been reported that the Rossoneri are very close to completely abandoning the San Siro plans to pursue an alternative path that would see them build a new stadium on their own without the Nerazzurri.
As of yet, there has been no official confirmation that Milan will change their plans, even if they have already made clear that it is a strong consideration.
For his part, Milan Mayor Sala wants to clear the air once and for all and have certainty on what the plans will be with the San Siro.
The Mayor does not want there to be any ambiguity regarding the San Siro plans after ninety days.
“We’ll continue with the dialogue with both Inter and Milan,” the Mayor said.
“The procedure [of potentially changing Milan’s plans] is underway, and Milan know that they can’t go forward without formally putting an end to the project in San Siro,” he continued.
“What we’re doing now is writing the teams to tell them that we’ll give them a reasonable period, which should be around 90 days, to deliver an update on the financial plans or else tell us that they’re no longer of interest to them,” he explained.
