Inter-linked Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram is set to leave the German team on a free transfer at the end of the season, the club’s Sporting Director has confirmed.

Speaking to Gladbach’s official club channel, via FCInterNews, Gladbach Sporting Director removed all doubt around the 25-year-old’s future by openly admitting that he is set to leave when his contract runs out at the end of June.

It has long been known that Thuram will leave Gladbach when his deal runs out at the end of the season rather than signing an extension, although never formally confirmed.

Inter have been reported to have offered the French World Cup star a contract, having in fact been targeting him since the summer of 2021.

There are, however, reports that Thuram is ready to turn the Nerazzurri down and join a different club.

In any event, regardless of where Thuram is playing his football next season, it will certainly not be with Gladbach.

The Foals Sporting Director Virkus spoke openly about the fact that both the Frenchman and another reported Inter target in the form of Ramy Bensebaini will be on their way in a few months’ time when their current deals run out.

“We had open discussions with both players, and we were well aware of their current status,” the Gladbach executive said of both Thuram and Bensebaini.

“It’s too bad that they won’t be extending their expiring contracts, as they’ve both given us a lot over these past four seasons,” he continued.

“And we also understand that our fans are disappointed that they aren’t staying.”

“But it has always been part of our strategy in recent seasons to bring in very talented players, allow them to grow, and eventually let them move on because we can’t keep them forever.”

“Ideally, these transfers would generate a nice transfer fee for us,” Virkus observed.

“Of course, it’s not ideal for us that that isn’t the case here,” he admitted.

“But both are players who can make the difference,” Virkus said of Thuram and Bensebaini.

“Both of them have given us a lot in the past, and they’re still continuing to contribute today.”

“That’s why, for all the legitimate disappointment we feel, they deserve a proper goodbye,” the Gladbach Sporting Director concluded.
