Porto coach Sergio Conceicao has poured a fair bit of cold water on some of the links between himself and Inter.

Speaking in a press conference, as reported by Inter-News.it, the 48-year-old stated that he has “no comment” and dismissed these rumours as nothing more than newspaper talks.

Over the past few weeks, there have been some rumours linking Conceicao as a possible replacement for Simone Inzaghi at Inter should the current coach be sacked at the end of the season.

Part of the reason for these links has been the fact that the Portuguese coach has been rumoured to be seriously considering leaving the Estadio do Dragao after five seasons in charge, with one report even suggesting that he was considering a shock resignation from Porto during the international break.

Conceicao ended up staying at the club, although the fact remains that there have been some evident tensions between he and the club’s board, particularly regarding the frequency with which the Portuguese champions’ best players tend to be sold.

Apart from the high regard in which he is held as a coach based on the job that he’s done season on season at Porto, one of the main reasons why Conceicao has been persistently linked with Inter is that he has a connection to the Nerazzurri from his playing days.

Conceicao spent two seasons playing at the Giuseppe Meazza between 2001 and 2003, having also appeared for the likes of Parma and Lazio in Serie A.

In any event, the rumours are certainly there that Conceicao could be lined up as the replacement for Inzaghi at Inter in the event that the 47-year-old were to leave.

However, for his part, the coach has rubbished them, stating that “I have nothing to say about it.”

“You want an answer, but I have no comment,” he added.

“I have no control over what the newspapers write,” Conceicao remarked in response to the links between himself and Inter.”
