Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana has made a point to downplay a recent bust-up that he had with teammate Marcelo Brozovic in training.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the 27-year-old was asked about the incident with the midfielder in a recent training session, but made clear that it was not a serious conflict and that he and the Croat get along well.
Video emerged yesterday on social media of Onana and Brozovic getting into a bit of a shoving match in training ahead of this evening’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Benfica.
The midfielder appeared to take an issue with the force of a challenge from the keeper during a training exercise, and made it known as the two Inter player squared up to one another.
Whilst the pair only quarrelled briefly before being broken apart by teammates, and there looked to be little in it, it was evidence of heightened emotions within the team ahead of this evening’s match against Benfica.
For his part, however, Onana feels that there was not much more to it than a brief flaring of tempers.
There have in fact been a couple of incidents this season in which Nerazzurri players had lost their tempers with one another – one was in fact between Onana himself and striker Edin Dzeko on the pitch, whilst in another case Romelu Lukaku and Nicolo Barella exchanged heated words during a match.
However, as was the case after these incidents, Onana has chosen to stress that despite the brief moment in which tempers flared, there are no problems between he and his teammate after the incident.
“Brozo and I have a great relationship,” the Cameroonian said, “I’m very happy with the way that he played against Benfica last week.”
Of this evening’s match, he said that “The mistake tonight would be to think everything’s already done.”
“We know that to progress we have to win over two legs, we’ll try to do exactly that.”
“The fact that we’d get a derby in the semifinals is an extra motivation, but we’ll think about that later,” Onana said.
