Inter could be forced into selling Andre Onana this summer in the event that they were to miss out on qualification for the Champions League next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInter1908, who report that the Cameroonian would be a likelier candidate than Denzel Dumfries for a big summer sale, which would be necessary without Champions League revenues.

Inter have two potential paths to qualify for the group stage of next season’s Champions League, but both currently look very difficult.

In the league, the Nerazzurri find themselves out of the top four of the table following a truly horrendous sequence of results, whilst the uncertain situation of the points deduction to Juventus means that it could be even more difficult to claw their way back.

Meanwhile, in the Champions League Inter are theoretically three matches away from winning the competition to secure a place in next season’s edition.

Of course, beating AC Milan over a two-legged semifinal and then overcoming Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final of the competition would perhaps be even more difficult of an ask than regaining a place in the top four of the league table for Inter.

As such, the Nerazzurri could be forced into making a big sale this summer, as without the revenues from the group stage of Europe’s top club competition next season there would be no other way to meet financial targets.

Whilst Dumfries has been linked as the likeliest name to leave in the past, the Dutchman’s form in the past few months has caused a lot of the interest in him to cool.

Onana, in contrast, has been in outstanding form, with his performances in the Champions League particularly catching the eye.

Accordingly, the Nerazzurri could find that the 27-year-old, who only arrived from Ajax last summer, could be the player who it is most logical to cash in on, with both Chelsea and Manchester United keen, and the fee involved not likely to be less than €40 million.
