Striker Romelu Lukaku could start for Inter in Wednesday evening’s Coppa Italia semifinal second leg match against Juventus.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that there is a real possibility that the 29-year-old could be selected to play from the start against the Bianconeri given his outstanding form shown against Empoli, but that the decision will wait until closer to the match.

In today’s training session, Inter mainly worked to get over the strain that yesterday afternoon’s Serie A win away to Empoli had on the team physically.

Tomorrow will be more geared towards preparing for the Coppa Italia semifinal clash with Juventus the day afterwards.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will leave his selection decisions for the match against the Bianconeri to closer to the match itself, with the team still having training tomorrow and Wednesday during the day before the match.

What seems clear according to Sky, however, is that the coach has yet to make up his mind one way or the other on who will start in attack.

Whilst it was reported earlier today that Edin Dzeko remains the favourite to lead the line from the start alongside Lautaro Martinez, this is not necessarily the case.

Lukaku had put in a man of the match performance in the second half of yesterday’s match against Empoli, and this could be enough to earn the Belgian a spot in the starting eleven against Juventus.

Whilst the 29-year-old has not lived up to expectations so far upon his return to Inter on loan from Chelsea, he could still have the chance to make a big contribution should he finally find form at the most important part of the season.

Lukaku’s two goals against Empoli yesterday afternoon were his first two in the league since scoring against Lecce on the opening day of the season.
