Bologna are pushing to extend the contract of coach Thiago Motta, who is a target for Inter.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Rossoblu could hold a meeting to make progress in the negotiations before their Serie A match against Juventus this weekend.

The work that Motta has done since taking over at Bologna in the fall has marked him out as a coach who could have a future at a bigger club than the Emilians, and that this could be sooner rather than later.

Given that current Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s future beyond the end of the season looks to be very uncertain due to the team’s underwhelming, at times disastrous, form in the league, the Nerazzurri could be on the lookout for replacements in the summer.

Whilst a number of names have been linked as possible replacements if Inzaghi were to be sacked, ranging from Brighton and Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi to Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano to even bringing back Antonio Conte, Motta‘s name has certainly been right up there.

This is particularly the case given that the former Italian international has a strong connection with Inter from during his playing days, having won the European Treble with the club during the 2009-10 season under Jose Mourinho.

However, there remains the fact that at the moment Motta is under contract with Bologna until the end of June 2024, and so if the Nerazzurri are to want to appoint the 40-year-old then they’ll have to negotiate with the Rossoblu.

Moreover, the Gazzetta report, Bologna are very keen to extend Motta’s contract, which would all but take him off of the market in the upcoming summer.

According to the newspaper, the Rossoblu will look to hold contract talks with their coach very soon, possibly even before facing Juventus this Sunday.
