Italian journalist Paolo Condo feels that it would be surprising to see Edin Dzeko start for Inter in attack in tomorrow evening’s Coppa Italia semifinal second leg against Juventus.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, the journalist emphasized that after Romelu Lukaku put in the kind of performance that the club have waited “months” for against Empoli, it would be hard to imagine the Belgian being dropped from the lineup.

The question of whether to start Dzeko or Lukaku looks to be the main selection doubt that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has ahead of tomorrow evening’s match.

Dzeko has looked to be the favourite to start alongside Lautaro Martinez in attack for some time, whilst the case for Lukaku is reinforced by his match-winning performance against Empoli over the weekend, with the 29-year-old not suspended for tomorrow’s match.

Whilst the rotation of the squad and particularly the attack has typically been the policy under Simone Inzaghi with so many important matches so close together, and Dzeko was rested for the entirety of Sunday’s match which is usually a strong hint, Condo feels that there could be bigger concerns in play.

“I’d be surprised to see Dzeko starting tomorrow,” the journalist argued.

“The entire Inter environment has been waiting for months for a performance from Lukaku like the one against Empoli,” he continued.

“And I think Inzaghi had Lautaro and Lukaku in his mind as the starting duo.”

“Dzeko is an excellent third option, but Lukaku’s second goal sends a precise message,” Condo argued.

“In such an important match, I would see the starting duo as being better,” he went on.

“And the lifting of his suspension seems to be another message in favour of Lukaku.”

“But then Inzaghi is the one who interacts with them every day, so he can judge better than we can,” he added.
