Liverpool are ready to put forward a massive offer to try and sign midfielder Nicolo Barella from Inter during the summer transfer window.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, who report that the Reds could offer the Nerazzurri as much as €85 million to try and sign the 26-year-old former Cagliari midfielder, although the player himself would have little intention of leaving.

Liverpool are gearing up to rebuild in midfield over the summer, with the central positions identified as a major area of weakness throughout what has been a disappointing campaign for Juergen Klopp’s team.

Inter midfielder Barella has emerged as one of the top names on the Premier League giants’ shortlist, as they aim to get the level of the squad back up to the team who had been competing for the Premier League and the Champions League.

The 26-year-old has been one of Inter’s outstanding performers since his arrival from Cagliari in the summer of 2019, growing season upon season under both Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi.

So far Barella has won the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and the Supercoppa Italiana on two occasions with Inter.

Moreover, the EURO 2020 winner with Italy has also starred in the Champions League, where he scored in both legs of a quarterfinal tie against Benfica having already found the back of the net against Barcelona in the group stage.

It has been reported that Inter would consider Barella to be completely “untouchable” on the transfer market this summer, although contrary reports have also emerged that the midfielder could be a player who the Nerazzurri are forced to sell if they miss out on Champions League qualification.

In any event, Mediaset report that Liverpool are fully prepared to put Inter’s resolve to the test with a cash offer worth no less than €85 million.

However, the Reds could face a major stumbling block in their pursuit, as the broadcaster also reports that the player concerned is not interested in making the move.
