Inter have deemed midfielder Nicolo Barella to be “untouchable” during the upcoming summer transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri would have zero interest in letting go of the 26-year-old no matter what else happens during the window.

Inter could be in for another summer of uncertainty and potential big name sales starting in a few weeks’ time, particularly in the event that the team were to fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Without Champions League revenues, the Nerazzurri would need to find other ways to bring in cash, and the transfer market would certainly be the natural avenue for them to turn to.

There have even been reports that Inter could be forced into selling start midfielder Barella, who scored in both legs of the team’s victorious Champions League quarterfinal tie against Benifca.

The 26-year-old is marked out as a target for Paris Saint-Germain and for Liverpool, among others.

In the case of Liverpool, there have been reports that the Reds could offer midfielder Fabinho in addition to a cash fee for Barella, whilst PSG have been reported to have sounded out the possibility of a cash-plus-player offer including Leandro Paredes who’s currently on loan at Juventus.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly keen as well, as a replacement for N’Golo Kante should the Frenchman not sign a new contract.

In any event, despite all of these rumours that have emerged around Barella’s future, the Gazzetta has poured a lout of cold water on them.

According to the newspaper, even if the Nerazzurri are to be put in a difficult position of having to make a significant net profit in the transfer market with sales this summer, Barella would be virtually the last player they’d consider listening to offers for.
